For the first time in EFAF Cup history two teams from the same country meet in the final; it is also the first time in Austrian sports history that two Austrian teams face each other in an European final – regardless of which sport.

The TUREK Graz Giants qualified by beating the Dresden Monarchs twice in the qualification round, then beating the Swiss champion Winterthur Warriors on the road in the semifinals. The Cineplexx Blue Devils advanced by beating as well as the Madrid Osos – the Spanish vice-champions – as the Covenry Jets – the English champions; in the semifinals the Cineplexx Blue Devils upset the Berlin Adler – a surprise for many not so familiar with the quality of the Austrian Football League.

Both teams met once this season – the TUREK Graz Giants won this game on the road by a score of 33:20 on June 9th.

The TUREK Graz Giants played in the Austrian Bowl XXIII last weekend loosing to the EuroBowl champions Vienna Vikings; the Giants also lost starting receivers Darryl Ray (shoulder) and Christian Kranz (ACL) as well as starting noseguard Georg Purger (ACL), with some other players being bruised from the long season. With only a week to prepare some young players really have to step up and produce on Saturday.

The Cineplexx Blue Devils on the other hand had three weeks to prepare for the final, thus all players could get healthy and can go into this game well rested.

As kickoff time is - due to television time - set for 2:15 pm, both teams will be severely tested by the expected heat.

The game is covered live by Austrian television ORF on chanel Sport 1+.
