Eurobowl XXXI: Meeting of the football heavyweights
On Saturday (10th of June, kick-off 7 p.m.), two of the best European football teams will compete for the continental crown in the Eurobowl XXXI with the Samsung Frankfurt Universe and the New Yorker Lions. The team of Lions´ head coach Troy Tomlin goes in the encounter as the title holder, the Universe is acting EFL-champion.
So far, both teams have never met each other in the past, and especially for this reason, all football fans are eagerly awaiting this game.
On the way to the final, the New Yorker Lions were able to win their encounter against the Amsterdam Crusaders (20:6) as well as against the Spanish team of the Badalona Dracs (54:14).
The Universe of head coach Markus Grahn defeated the Milano Seamen on their way to the final (38:12) but lost against the Berlin Rebels close by 11:10.
The GFL season 2017 runs according to plan for both teams. Both the New Yorker Lions and the Samsung Universe got four victories from four games.
The name of Frankfurt's head coach Markus Grahn is deeply rooted in the history of the Lions, where the football career of the 48-year-old expert began. As a coach, he won the German Championship three times in 1997, 1998 and 1999 with the Braunschweig Lions.
In the final, the "who is who" of European football can be found. Both teams are outstandingly equipped with German national players and internationally renowned players. But Frankfurt has to play without quarterback Mike Wegzyn, who suffered badly on the foot in the BIG6 group game in Berlin and will miss the rest of the season. Now playmaker Sonny Weishaupt will carry the main load of the Hessian attack. No easy task, he has to fight against the best defense of the GFL.
However, Braunschweig's head coach Troy Tomlin is warned: "It's going to be a difficult and hard-fought game, it's all about the crown of Europe. We can do this only if we do our best, remain disciplined and flawless, and execute our tackles and blocks very accurate."
Also off the field, it will be high-class. So the motocross freestyle jumpers of the circus "Flic Flac" will show spectacular stunts at the power party. The pregame show will be hold by "Supertalent" participant Viviana Grisafi. In the half time, the frontwoman of "Snap!", Penny Ford, appears.
The field for the big final of European football, the Eurobowl XXXI, has been prepared.
