BIG6: New Yorker Lions win versus Amsterdam
At the start of the BIG6 2017 the New Yorker Lions from Braunschweig won in the Sloten Sportpark with 20:6 at the Amsterdam Crusaders.
In the first game of group A, the guests from Northern Germany offered a convincing performance, especially in the defense. This was a little bit surprising due to the fact that the defense was changed in many positions before this season.
The compilation seems to fit due to the fact that the hosts came in the near of the Lions´ end zone for the first time just before the end of the game.
Until then the guests already led with 20:0, but without match practice for a long time also for the guests not everything went well. It took shortly before the end of the first quarter, until the Lions scored for the first time of the game with a 5-yard-touchdown-run of David McCants and the PAT by Tobias Goebel.
The kicker then increased the lead before the break with a field goal to 10:0.
At the beginning of the third quarter, it was again Tobias Goebel, who scored with another field goal.
After the third quarterback sack of the Lions and the resulting punt of the Crusaders, guest quarterback Casey Therriault led the German team with passes to Niklas Römer and Nathaniel Morris to the near of the end zone of Amsterdam. The remaining nine yards ran David McCants to score his second touchdown to the preliminary decision of the game.
Crusaders Receiver Ashneal Werlemann shortened to 6:20 by a pass in the end zone, but the hosts were not able to score more points.
With this success, the New Yorker Lions will face the entry into the Eurobowl XXXI in the home game against the Badalona Dracs next Saturday at 6 p.m. With another victory, the Lions would be qualified for the final.
