Defending champion Berlin Adler, German champions New Yorker Lions from Brunswick and their runner-up from last year's German Bowl Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns are the three clubs representing Germany in the 2015 Big6. The Big6 is a joint initiative of the six leading American football clubs in Europe inaugurated in 2014. Big6 clubs cooperate in marketing the top high-profile competition in European American football, which in July will again conclude with the final game for the Eurobowl trophy.

The Eurobowl trophy is Europe's biggest prize for club teams in American football, its history dates back to 1986 and until 2013 the competition was organized by the European Federation ao American Football (EFAF). TV coverage of the competition has increased in recent years, not only with live broadcasts of the Eurobowl final game on Eurosport, but also due to a number of live broadcasts of other games on national TV channels or in sophisticated web productions. The joint initiative of the clubs is supported by leading European national associations such as Germany's AFVD.

In last year's final game the Berlin Adler beat the New Yorker Lions at Berlin by a score of 20-17. It was the Adler's second Eurobowl trophy win and the eighth for a German team. Austrian clubs have won the Eurobowl trophy eight times also, in 2015 it is again up to the Vienna Vikings and Tirol Raiders as the two outstanding clubs of the Austrian Football League to face the challenge of Germany's elite teams. Sixth team for the 2015 season is top French club Flash de La Courneuve from Paris. For the French, Big6 games will prove as a highly welcomed opportunity to compete with GFL top clubs.

Participation in the Big6 is possible for teams which fulfill specific requirements - not only in terms of sports but also on the organizational side of things. This way the Big6 clubs ensure that their competition remains the elite club competition on the continent and no concessions are made in the quality of the competition and its games. An expansion is planned for the future, the addition of a French club certainly already was a step into the right direction. National federations of the Big6 clubs also continue to support the European Football League (EFL) as a second European-wide competition for club teams. A number of German clubs are scheduled to participate in the 2015 EFL season.
