One of the openers will be a clash between the EFAF Cup winners of 2008 and 2009, when reigning EFAF Cup champion Prague Panthers will host the Berlin Adler, who were their predecessors.

- I am happy to have once again a good tournament with strong teams. We especially welcome Serbia as the newest country to have a participating team in the EFL, EFAF president Robert Huber says.

EFAF Cup heritage is not only visible with the game at Prague - last year's runner-up to the Panthers from Thonon, France, will face the Beograd Blue Dragons from Serbia, who in their international premiere season only missed the semifinals in EFAF Cup 2009, because they gave up a last-quarter touchdown to Bologna. Also involved in the opening weekend is three-time Eurobowl champion Bergamo Lions, who starts off Group 1 of the preliminaries with its home game against the Valencia Firebats. The fourth matchup of the opening week features another contest between Italy and Spain when the Badalona Dracs play at home against the Bolzano Giants.

The games to decide four of the spots in the quarterfinals will take place in a two week's turn, with Austrian champion Vienna Vikings (grouped with Badalona and Bolzano) or Swedish champion Stockholm Mean Machines (facing Prague and Berlin) entering the competition on April 17. After the first weekend of May the four group winners will be determined, the quarterfinals are set for May 15. Then last year's semifinalists Swarco Raiders Tirol (Eurobowl champion of 2008 and 2009), Porvoo Butchers, Graz Giants and Flash de La Courneuve will host the group winners. Semifinals then take place the first weekend of June, the Eurobowl final will be played the first weekend of July. Exact dates and the venues for the semifinals and the final will be determined at a later date.
