Belgrad´s second close loss

Even though the Blue Dragons in their two EFAF Cup games this season scored as many touchdowns as their opponents they didn’t qualify for the semifinals. Around 300 spectators came to watch the Blue Dragons host first EFAF game in Belgrade against Bologna Doves, but home team couldn’t manage to win although they had third quarter advantage.

The game didn’t start as the Dragons expected when Chris Manderino scored on 3 yard touchdown run. Manderino plays fullback for the Doves team and has NFL experience with the Kansas City Chiefs. After successful PAT, score was 0-7.

The Italian team couldn’t stop frequent Dragons attacks and they finally buckled under pressure when receiver Pavle Plamenac caught 15 yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Russell. After successful
PAT, teams were leveled. With the score 7-7 referee Jose Rebes sounded the whistle for the end of the first half.

Spectators were hoping to see the excitement continue. That did happen when Željko Kostić made a 23 yard touchdown run, and the scoreboard was showing 13-7 after missed PAT.

It turned out that this missed PAT was crucial for the final result, same as two weeks ago against Badalona Dracs.

Game was decided less than 7 minutes to go in the final quarter with the brilliant run from Terrell Williams to seal the Doves place in the semifinals.

The Blue Dragons couldn’t manage to make another score change as the game came to an end with the final score 13-14 for the visiting team.

In the EFAF Cup semifinals Doves play further against thier next opponent while the Blue Dragons will seek for consolation against Klek Knights in the Serbian National League.
