Eurobowl-Quarterfinal: Raiders hunting for Lions in Tivoli
The many time German Champions and two-time Eurobowl Champs have unfinished business with the SWARCO Raiders. This coming Saturday it will be exactly 3 years and 11 days after Braunschweig was forced out of the Eurobowl in Tivoli Stadium with their worst Eurobowl setback in club history, 13-40. 16 players from the 2006 team are still with the Lions today and 22 new players this year alone were brought to Braunschweig. Among these is last year’s American Receiver-Superstar, Ryan Voss.
No Holds Bard
As the reigning Eurobowl Champions, this Class-Team out of Braunschweig makes for a particularly difficult opening appearance for the Raiders in this year’s Eurobowl. It will be the 'No Holds Bard' contest that everyone expects, both athletically and organisationally. It is unquestionably the most important game of the year thus far and will feature a Lion Offense that revolves around very experienced Quarterback Dennis Zimmermann and the big standout receiver Ryan Voss. The strong run game will be headed up by US Running Back Jabari Johnson and the German Prince Baffour. They will also have many additional players on hand as the Lions have brought in many reinforcements for this season.
Great Gameday & much Prominence
The big tailgate party will take place as always in the West Parking Lot, this time it will start at 15:00. Game sponsor Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe AG is inviting the first 100 tailgate guests to a cutlet and a softdrink. Fans will loudly be able to support our defense in the stadium due to the 1,000 UPC Clap-Sticks that will be passed out in the entryway. In addition to this, game sponsor Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe AG will be handing out free pop corn and water balls at their stand. At Giovanni’s face painting station you can get transformed into a true Raiders fan and for a main prize in a raffle, you can win 3 Tivoli & Baggersee season passes. #
Governor-Representative Hannes Gschwentner and IKB-Board of Director Member Dr. Elmar Schmid will be doing the honorary kick-off. As official game observer and highest EFAF representative we are expecting Joop Woudenberg. At 23:00 a free shuttle bus will depart from in front of the Eishalle and will go directly to the AIQA Post-Game Party at the Baggersee. Thanks to our partner Connexion at live.raiders.at our home games will be broadcast as always world wide via our Live-Stream.
The winner of this Qtr. Final contest between the SWARCO Raiders and the Braunschweig Lions will advance to the Semi-Final on either the 13th or 14th of June and will play against the winner of the Finnish Qtr. between the Seinäjoki Crocodiles and the Porvoo Butchers. In the other two Qtr. Final pairings the Turek Graz Giants face up with the Elancount Templiers (F) and the Raiffeisen Vikings Vienna will square up with the La Courneuve Flash (F).
3-2 standing against German Teams
In the 17 year history of the SWARCO Raiders there have been a total of 5 clashes with German teams. The first time was in 1994 where the Raiders lost to the Rosenheim Rebels, following this was a Pre-Season game victory against the Stuttgart Scorpions and in the Papa Joe’s Cup against the Franken Knights. In 2006 the Raiders lost the Eurobowl road game in Braunschweig 12-21, soon to follow was the rubber match against the Lions where they exited the tournament with a 40-13 set back to the Raiders.
