First EFL game in Elancourt.

And first win for the Templiers! 62-23 was the final score. The first EFL game of the Templiers history took place last Saturday in Elancourt against the 2008 Spanish champion, the Pioners. The weather was great, the crowd was numerous so let the show begin.

The visitors won the toss and started with the ball on offense. The Templiers defence played well this first drive and forced the Pioners to punt and give the ball back to their explosive offense. This scenario will be duplicated for most of the first half to see the Templiers scoring 6 touchdowns in the first half out of 8 possessions. The Templiers scored twice on back to back runs from their new American player Keith Stokes from 1 and 6 yards out. Perez Mattison found then Anthony Couvin for a touchdown each before the pioners finally succeeded to score on a passing play before half time. Perez Mattisson sent both Anthony Couvin and Jérémy Larroque into the endzone before the half. Julien Tanvet, out of his running back position runs efficiently also into the Spanish endzone. The score at half time was 40 – 07.

Back from the locker room Jérémy Larroque will immediately score on a great 85yds kick off return and give the hosting team a larger cushion. The Spanish champion reacted by scoring 2 touchdowns and a safety very quickly and we thought they can make a great come back. But the Templiers get back in rhythm and finished strongly with 2 additional scores, both on pass plays, the first one by Jérémy Larroque for his personnal 3rd, and one on a 50 yards reception by veteran receiver Frederic Painchaud. Those touchdowns combined with the 6 extra points made by kicker Emmanuel Charret and a 2 point conversion reception by Frederick Henderson put the final score to 62-23.

This first EFL game gives great hopes to the Templiers, who will have to learn from the numerous penalties and mental mistakes they commited if they want to advance to the quarterfinal.

Next game will be played in Bergamo in 4 weeks and we bet that the Lions will be ready to compete.
